Edward Joseph McNichols Jr., 67, of Scranton, Pennsylvania, died Friday, July 18, 2008, in Moses Taylor Hospital after an illness.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Edward and Naomi Lowe McNichols, he was a graduate of West Scranton High School and Lackawanna Junior College. He served in the Navy and was a member of the VFW. Before retiring, he was employed by the Internal Revenue Service in Philadelphia and the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and baseball and he loved to cook, especially Italian fare. Ed truly loved his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. He was much loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Surviving are three sons, Edward and wife, Pamela, Clarks Summit; John, Scranton; and Stephen, York; two daughters, Ellen Lindeman, Warminster; and Megan, Dallastown; two brothers, Robert, West Wyoming; and Timothy, Scranton; seven grandchildren, Emily, Audrey and Zo McNichols, Taylor and Luke Lindeman, Kylie McNichols and Briana Bell; a niece and three nephews. He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Ted Lindeman.

At Ed's request, there will be no viewing. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Lucy's Church, South Ninth Avenue. Friends will be received in the church after Mass.
