Joseph "Joe" Koonce, 82, of Temple, Texas died Wednesday September 8, 2010 in a local hospital. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Mattson officiating. Burial will follow at Greathouse Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Koonce was born January 20, 1928 in Greenbrier, Tennessee to Robert and Ella Rosaline Dorris Koonce. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force and the U. S. Army. Joe worked for the U.S. Government retiring in 1985 as a Special Agent with the Office of Inspector General, USDA. He then worked as a bailiff with the Bell County Court System and then was a funeral director with the Scanio-Harper Funeral Home.

Joe married Nell Hester in 1956 she died in June of 2000, then he married Bertha Mayes in September of 2003 she died in March of 2009. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church for over 40 years, and member of the Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star.

Survivors include two sons, Harry M. Koonce and wife Vera of Temple and J. Paul Koonce and wife B. J. of Livermore, California; three grandchildren, Eric Koonce, Josie Koonce, and Penny Koonce.
