Bob Smith

Bob Smith, retired Senior Special Agent, Western Region, passed away on March 29, 2008 at the age of 80, in Walnut Creek, California, after a long illness. Bob was born in New York City in September 1927, and served in the U.S. Army for over 20 years prior to emploment by OIG. He attained the rank of chief warrant officer (CW-3) in Military Intelligence, and worked briefly for IRS in San Francisco before his OIG career. Bob spent a lot of time conducting investigations for OIG in Guam, and like all of us, traveled extensively. He was the first to be promoted to GS-13 senior agent status in the Western Region. He was fond of charter boat fishing, assisting seniors with their income tax preparation, and was a driver for Meals on Wheels. Bob is survived by his wife Betty, three children, and numerous grandchildren. A memorial service was held in his honor on April 12, 2008 in California.
