Retired Special Agent Carol Heath, Raleigh, NC, suboffice, passed away June 4, 2019. The following is from his obituary:

  • Carol Uzzell Heath, Sr., 77, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, June 4, 2019. Mr. Heath died surrounded by his family.

    Mr. Heath was born in New Bern on March 11, 1942 and he graduated from Farm Life High School Vanceboro, class of 1960. He served his country in the United States Air Force. Carol grew up loving the great law men of the old west and knew he wanted to be a law man. Mr. Heath served as a North Carolina State Highway patrol trooper while earning his degree in Law Enforcement from Martin Technical Institute. Later, he moved to the central part of North Carolina served as a correctional officer at the federal bureau of prisons in Butner. Carol's love for law led him to attend the United States Marshall academy and was a federal marshal where he served on many high-profiled federal cases. He later became a special agent for the United States Department of Agriculture, Office of Inspector General. Mr. Heath retired with 30 years of loyal service to the federal government. After retiring from the federal government, Carol continued to work in law enforcement with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations specializing in the Department of Agriculture. Carol continued his education to be a law enforcement trainer and taught classes of criminal law prior to his retirement. Mr. Heath retired to Washington, NC in 2008.

    Mr. Heath is preceded in death by his parents, Elisha and Kathleen Heath, son, Stephen Heath, brother, Dennis Heath, and in-laws William and Thelma Coward.

    Carol Heath is survived by his wife of 44 years, Vonnie Coward Heath; two sons, Carol Heath, Jr. of Vanceboro, Michael Heath (Kathryn) of Grifton; step-son William Earl Mills, Jr. (Carla) of Washington; step-daughter Kitty Hedgepath (Eddie) of Washington; two grandsons, Steven Heath of Grifton and Ross Mills (Amber) of Washington; four granddaughters, Amanda Mickle of Grifton, Kathleen Shepard (Scott), of Washington; Brandy Cleaton of Greenville; Jamie Foster (McKinley) of Washington; seven great-grandchildren, Addison, Anna Lee, McKenzie, Presley, Sophia, Sadie, and Wyatt; brother, Ray Heath of Grifton; sister, Judy Kay Heath of Raleigh; four sisters-in-law, Pattie Kent (George) of Yorktown, VA; Cindy Coward of Greenville; SueAnn Taylor (Dean) of Washington, Jeanette Beakes of Washington, three brothers-in-law, Danny Coward (Brenda) of Chocowinity; Kenneth Coward (Vicky) of Washington, Timothy Coward of Washington and Tex Coward (Lynette) of Chocowinity. Mr. Heath is survived by many nieces and nephews.

    The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm on Saturday, June 8, 2019. The celebration of Carol's life will be at 2 pm on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Paul Funeral Home, Washington, NC. Mr. Heath will be laid to rest at the Oakdale Cemetery in Washington, NC. Kevin Heath, Ross Mills, Scott Shepard, Calvin Thompson, Tim Anderson and Dean Taylor will serve as pallbearers.
