Leondis J. Redwine

Lt. Col. Leondis J. Redwine, U.S.A.F. Retired, passed away November 29, 2006, at the age of 90. He was born October 31, 1916, in Lake City, Kansas, to Albert John Redwine & Ruth Fern Fulton Redwine. He was known as Leon to his Family and Friends.

Col. Redwine was a graduate of Kansas State University, where he recieced a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Leon joined the Army Air Corp., which later became the U.S.A.F.. he served his country through World War II and the Korean War and retired in 1961.

In 1962, he joined the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a Special Agent where he investigated waste, fraud, and abuse in governmantal programs. He retired in 1982 as a Supervisory Special Agent in the Southwest Region, Temple, TX.

Since 1982 and until his death Leon worked diligently and quietly beside his wife La Verne on issues involving the welfare of children in Texas and other nations.

Leon was a devoted husband, father, brother and friend to all he knew. Leon was proceded in death by LaVerne, his spouse of 63 years. Leon is survived by his sister Irene Shaw of Pratt, Kansas; his brother M.C. of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; his sister Erma Potter of Galena , Kansas; his son L.J. Redwine II of Denver, Colorado; daughter Dixie Gay Redwine of New Braunfels,Texas; daughter Loretta Redwine Robertson of Austin,Texas; grandaughter Mary Teresa Redwine of Denver, Colorado; grandson Patrick Sean Redwine of San Marcos, Texas;grandaughter Rebecca JR Robertson of Austin, Texas; and great-grandson Zephren Zachary Redwine of San Marcos, Texas.

Grave-side serveices were held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas on Thursday, December 7, 2006.
